PASS Researchers Present at ACPA Conference in Chicago, March 18-21

Researchers from the Pullias Center's Promoting At-promise Student Success (PASS) project shared findings with implications for practice during the ACPA Conference in Chicago this week.

In “Crafting Sustainable Careers as Graduate Students and New Professionals,’ researchers Genia Bettencourt (University of Memphis), Lauren Irwin (University of Tennessee) and Rosemary Perez (University of Michigan) spoke to a packed crowd about how the role of community care and job crafting in addressing burnout and compression fatigue among student affairs practitioners.

A collaborative session with PASS researchers and University of Nebraska (NU) staff and administrators explores how practitioners understand and use research to shape their work. In “Closing the research-to-practice loop: Lessons from the field,” PASS researchers Bettencourt and Irwin provide an overview of the PASS study and several key findings, followed by NU study partners, Amy Goodburn and Jennifer Johnson, who share how they have used these findings to promote student success at their institution.

Additionally, PASS project alumna Serina Bravo presented her poster session, “Understanding Latin* Students’ Navigation of Major and Career Self-Efficacy.” Her research articulates an asset-based approach to understanding individual, familial, programmatic and institutional influences on Latin* students’ postsecondary success.
