Soumya Mishra is a postdoctoral research associate with the Leveraging Technology and Student Engagement (LTES) project at the Pullias Center for Higher Education. Soumya’s research interests include student access and success in American community colleges as well as higher education policy in South Asian countries. Her current work involves mixed methods research on institutional responses to instructional challenges created by Covid-19 and differences in student learning between various instructional modalities. Previously, Soumya evaluated the academic impact of a Basic Needs Assistance program at a Los Angeles community college.
Soumya earned a PhD in Education Policy from Teachers College at Columbia University in 2021. As a research assistant at the Community College Research Center, she worked on several projects related to the implementation and quantitative evaluation of guided pathways and college acceleration programs. Soumya wrote her dissertation on the formulation and implementation of a federal higher education policy in India. Prior to joining graduate school in the US, Soumya worked as a policy researcher with the World Bank and Government of India. She holds a bachelors degree from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University and masters’ degrees from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai and Teachers College, Columbia University.
