Valerie Gómez is a Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellow in the USC Pullias Center for Higher Education at the Rossier School of Education. Broadly, her research centers on advancing educational access and success for first-generation college students, students of color and those from working-class backgrounds. Her recent project examines how immigrant parents and families influence and support their children's college-going aspirations. Dr. Gomez’s research appears in the Race Ethnicity and Education Journal and the California Journal of Politics and Policy. She earned her bachelor’s degree from UCLA, a master’s degree in student development in higher education from CSULB and her PhD in Education from the University of California, San Diego.
