Challenges to Implementing Shared Equity Leadership
SEL is predicated on the idea that effective DEI leadership requires a collaborative approach rather than one that is siloed or isolated to a single leader or office. In this practice brief, we highlight some of the common challenges we identified in our recent research report, as well as recommendations for how to navigate these challenges. This brief has two main sections. The first section covers five common challenges that were ultimately navigable for most institutions, while the second section describes three big challenges that had the potential to derail SEL efforts if not intentionally addressed.
