Theresa E. Hernandez is interested in understanding how institutions of higher education can better support students from minoritized and marginalized communities such as first generation students of color from low socioeconomic backgrounds. She is interested in using mixed methods to investigate institutional changes in academia that foster inclusive and equitable structures, cultures, and communities. She appreciates research as both a process of discovery and storytelling. Theresa was born in San Francisco and attended Mission High School there before spending more than a decade in New York City. She completed her bachelor’s in comparative ethnic studies at Columbia University and earned her master’s in higher and postsecondary education from Teachers College. When not working, Theresa enjoys spending time with friends and family, whether hiking, laying out at the beach, cooking (and eating!), or watching TV.
